As a native New Englander, September always marks the beginning of a crisp, cool new season for me. It brings about more change for most people than any other season, especially kids. Now that President Obama is in office, celebrating change is all the rage, so why not have a party and invite some entertainment? You could have a caricature artist who changes you into someone new on paper, a face painter who changes how people see you, or an impersonator who changes into someone new for your entertainment and amazement!
Summer camp is over and the kids are bored! What are you going to do? Well, why not invite all their classmates over and have a caricature artist capture them on paper before they grow and change another year? The kids will be ecstatic and their moms will be so grateful! Best of all, you can save all the drawings and put them in the high school yearbook years from now to show the kids how much they’ve changed! If they are graduating this year, it could be a good substitute for the traditional senior picture.

Grandparent’s day is a perfect excuse to celebrate your parents, grandparents or even great-grandparents. Many retirement communities have events scheduled around the day designed to bring together several different generations. Here are some fun facts about the day:

Traditionally, Labor Day is the end of summer and the beginning of fall for Americans. It’s also a welcome day off for many working people and a popular party and parade weekend.

Family Entertainment
specializing in circus arts: juggling, stilt walking, slack rope walking,
rolling globe, unicycling, rope spinning. I also enjoy teaching these arts
through workshops, circus camps, and residencies. One of the most rewarding
aspects of my job is the opportunity to spend two to three days a month
performing room-to-room at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center and the
Children’s National Medical Center.

How did you get into the entertainment business? I
started performing musical theater shows in elementary schools throughout MD,
PA, and DE when I was ten years old. As a teenager, I spent my autumns running
around in tights and being silly at Rennaissance Festivals. The first actual
paycheck I ever received was as a court jester when I was fifteen. In 1990, I
joined the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus whom I travelled with for
three years. I met my wife there (an elephant rider), and we decided to come
back to MD to continue our performance careers. Since then we have done several
musicals together at Toby’s Dinner Theater in Columbia and Baltimore, and I have
continued to entertain families every chance I get.
What’s your favorite type of event? I
especially love to perform for large crowds of mixed-age elementary school
children. I like seeing how the silliness of my performance entertains the first
graders while the difficulty level of my tricks entertains the fifth
graders.
What’s your most memorable event? While I was waiting on the arena floor in the blackness before the start
of my first show with Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus, I looked up to
the dark seats and saw thousands of little swirly flashlights twinkling in
constellations. When the stage lights came up, the roar from that crowd nearly
knocked me out of my big shoes.
