Vanessa T. - South Carolina Caricature Artists

Vanessa has been doodling recognizable shapes and things since she first picked up a crayon as a tiny human. Now as a human, that’s not so tiny anymore... she continues to draw. She went to school at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina where she officially studied illustration, but got low scores in art class because the portraits she drew weren’t “actually portraits,” according to the professors, they were “merely caricatures of the model” (Queue mocking facial expression and hand gestures). Hence, providing a window into the wide world of caricature-- a different path my art could follow.

A few years after graduating, she became a caricature artist and worked a small retail stand at the Riverbanks Zoo and Garden in Columbia, South Carolina. And since then, she has drawn caricatures live for all types of events! Some describe her art style as aesthetically pleasing for all ages. Some people even go as far as to say that her style of caricature is actually making “CUTE-ticatures”... she could make the burliest of rugged men look like an itty bitty wittle puppy dog level of cute! ... More or less ...

Another thing that makes working with Vanessa more memorable is that if there is a theme to the event, she will try to wear a costume that matches the stated theme. For example, a client hosted a Disney’s Tangled party, and she showed up dressed as Rapunzel, complete with the flowers in her hair! Vanessa absolutely loves costumes, colorful wigs, funny hats or headbands (picture things like what the Whos in Whoville wear ;) )
