Raka B - Wisconsin Henna Tattoo Artists

Raka was born and raised in a Brahman family in Michigan. While growing up, she always helped her parents prepare for blessings and ceremonies by gathering flowers and grass, food for offerings, grinding sandalwood into paste, and collecting water. She is enchanted by ceremony and the hymns sung in praise of God and the mystical powers of the universe.

Raka loves art and to dabble in many different medias of expression. She paints, draws, throws ceramics, plays several instruments, writes music and poetry, dances, gardens, cooks, works with henna, photography, and creation. Her artwork expresses her journey, her Indian heritage, her emotion, and her need to feel things. She especially enjoys working with henna, as her creative energy mixes with her clients energy to draw new designs and symbols for each individual. This reminds us of our beauty and the healing powers of love and joy from the universe.

Raka makes all of her own henna paste from organic and body art quality henna powder, lemon juice, Wisconsin maple syrup, and a small selection of spice and essential oil. This guarantees freshness and that no harmful chemicals or dyes are present in her henna. She sells her henna paste at the Eastside Farmers Market in Madison, WI and offers a few workshops for making and drawing henna designs each year.
