L Jay P - New Jersey Caricature Artists

L Jay P is one of our Caricature Artists in Paterson:

L. Jay's interest in caricature first began with Mad Magazine with he was around 12 years old. He didn't even know what "caricature" meant at the time, he just knew that he liked Mort Drucker's true likenesses and comic parodies of the movie stars of the early 70's movies.

His first professional job as a caricature artist came in 1978 when he was 16 and still in high school. It was a summer job on the beachfront in Point Pleasant, NJ at a small caricature stand on the boardwalk. Unfortunatley for L. Jay the job didn't last the whole summer, but it is an experience he never forgot.

His wife always said he had a "knack" for drawing faces that actually looked like people she had encountered before. This "knack" for drawing made-up faces or "invisible faces," as they call it in the caricature business, soon had L. Jay believing that he should give pursuing a professional art career as a caricature artist another try. And now he's finally back to drawing what he's always loved to draw best, funny pictures of people! His biggest inspirations have come from God, his wife, his children, and the artwork of other caricaturist and artists.
