Irene S - Maryland Balloon Sculptors
Originally from a small town in Arizona, I was a carefree kid and always filled with imaginative ideas. Then, at age 14, I started to take an interest in theatre; mainly theatrical lighting design. Working in theatre opened my eyes to the art of design and color and was an excellent outlet for my new craft. I would later go further with my craft and receive a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree from the University of Arizona in 2002.
In 2005, I relocated with my husband to Maryland. I still continued doing theatre but trying to start a family was taking my focus elsewhere. I needed a creative outlet that I could do but would also allow me some freedom to stay home if I wished. A friend who was a magician suggestive face painting. I started face painting in 2005 and haven't looked back.
A few years later, with the help of a fellow twister, I became interested in balloon twisting. Again, a new medium to create these fantastic creations just blows me away. To be able to make a butter?y or a dinosaur out of balloons I feel is like a superpower. Only a few know, but the effect you can have on children is priceless.
