Picture this: you’re walking across the stage. Nervously, you shake hands, trying not to trip. Then, finally, you accept your diploma. YOU DID IT! Work’s done, and now it’s time to play! Parents, why not book a caricature artist for your children’s graduation party? E-mail or call About Faces at 1-800-923-8669 to reserve an artist today!
June’s Featured Entertainer is… April Gomez!
What type of Entertainment do you Provide?
I offer a diverse range of entertainment options including henna tattoos, stilt walking, balloon twisting, balloon sculptures (she can make ANYTHING out of balloons!), balloon decor, fire eating, fire dancing, glitter tattoos and face painting. I am based in the Maryland, DC, Baltimore area but will travel anywhere.
When and how did you get into this business?
Starting with a balloon twisting kit I borrowed from my father years ago,
I fell into the balloon world pretty easily. Being an artist at heart, I was always finding new ways to express my creativity. Once I discovered that there was no end to the possibilities of what I could make with balloons I was hooked.
What is the most memorable event you have ever worked at?
It’s hard to think of just one event that sticks out in my mind. With so many amazing events over the years I could tell you stories you’d not likely forget. From twisting balloons for Flavor Flav in Vegas, to fire dancing in the Virgin Islands. I once traveled by boat to fire dance for Richard Branson on his own private island! We ended up lost at sea for a bit (not the happy ending you were looking for? lol).
What is one thing you’d like everyone to know about you?
Although I mainly do children’s events and parties my favorite events to work at are for adults. Not many people over the age of 18 think to hire a balloon twister for their party, but it can be so much fun!! With adults I can take my time and get really creative with my balloons, I usually blow people away by what I can make. I love it when someone tries to stump me by giving me an outrageous balloon request.
If you could go back to high school and change one thing what would it be?
I wish I would have known that being in the circus was really a valid option for a career. I started so late at the entertainment business I wish I could have started earlier and even became a trapeze artist or a dancer. So if I were to change one thing it would be to go back to that time and start my career as an entertainer earlier and focus on traveling with the circus.
