The Faces behind About Faces! - About Faces Entertainment

The Faces behind About Faces!

We’re a small office of goofballs who love to help our clients book their events and bring their visions into reality! And we do really believe that it is our personal touch, thoughtful practices, and dedication to the people that we work with that distinguishes us from the competition. So like….maybe every now and again, someone could ask us what we’re up to or how our day is going?! And yet, they won’t. So I am doing it on their behalf.

I asked all of our agents to describe what a day in the life of an About Faces agent looks like for them, and they all complained and then finally sent in their replies. Here they are!

Emily Hasselman – Lead Agent / Supervisor

As the supervisor, my day starts off with distributing the inquiries that came in overnight! Imagine you are playing poker and youโ€™re giving out the cards in a circle of players, but there are duplicates of the same card randomly within the deck and you need to recognize when a duplicate shows up, and remember who the original went to, and then you have to keep in mind that any jokers go only one agent, and no one else can get one, and the 2s all go to another player, and one of your players tells you halfway through they spoke to the 4 of clubs on the phone and thatโ€™s their card now, did you send that to someone else yet or is that still in the deck, and can you please send it to them now? Every 5 cards, you have to put the deck down, go to another table and play a round of Go Fish, then go play a round of blackjack at another table, and then come back to our original poker table in this metaphor and remember where you left off. Sometimes, there are Uno cards and Magic: the Gathering cards hidden in the deck, almost perfectly disguised as normal playing cards, but you have to notice the differences and get rid of the imposters (because oh my gosh you wonโ€™t hear the end of it from your players if you accidentally give them a Magic card). On a Monday, you have to continue to do this until all 7 players have around 11 cards each.

Dana Hauprich – Senior Agent

Dana is probably the hardest-working agent in our office. You can tell, because she is currently so busy following up with all of her annual August clients that she has wantonly and utterlyย refused to write me a little blurb for this post.

Which is…fine. It’s fine. I’ll use the space for SEO. Mary Dray – Senior Agent

My role at the agency involves a lot of hand-holding and support – which is good, because I get scared and cry very easily.

I spend most of my time here building relationships with my clients and the awesome artists that we subcontract in major metropolitan markets nationwide. I believe, that in this increasingly corporatized and impersonal digital world, there is still room for small businesses with a personal touch to grow and flourish, and this industry is unique and personable by necessity. When people want to book entertainers for their events, they’re looking for something immediate, authentic, and human. You can’t quantify or automate the value of a performers’ natural charisma, artistic talent, or what it means when people come together to celebrate meaningful moments in their lives. And so I’m very glad to be here at About Faces!

My favorite part of my job is seeing the value of creative talents in everyday people. You don’t have to be Van Gogh to share your artwork with the world and make someone’s day a little better by connecting with them and making them smile. As humble as that may sound, there is a flourishing market for it!

Maryam Ali – Booking Agent

Maryam spends most of her time standing on the precipice between complete enlightenment and a postmodern rejection of all things that make sense or form a cohesive concept. She’s very avant-garde, and also she bakes. I am still waiting for her to write me a blurb for this section (hurry up!)

Venus Sullivan – Booking Agent

Imagine, if you would, a dark and twisted version of a 9-5 office setting. Weโ€™re kooky, crazy, and a little zany, but working in show biz you have be! But in sincerity, About Faces is a wonderful place, full of some of the most genuine, caring, and dedicated people Iโ€™ve ever known. Itโ€™s the kind of work to keep you on your toes; I mean how often do you get a request for a dancing mime in Kalamazoo? Itโ€™s the kind of work that makes you excited to come in each day with a twinkle of curiosity in your eye. Helping people is at the core of what we do, and that feeling just canโ€™t be beat.

Sam Wilson – Booking Agent

My name is Sam Wilson, and Iโ€™m an Agent with About Faces Entertainment. We work with entertainers all over the US to pair them with clients looking for artists for their events; whether itโ€™s a birthday party, a company event, or this yearโ€™s fall festival. Itโ€™s our job to make things as orderly and smooth as possible for both our clients and our entertainers. We keep you dates straight, and make sure every event is ready to properly host their requested talent. We always hope you have a great experience when you utilize About Faces Entertainment!

(Sam is very professional!)

Saijin Rovansek – Booking Agent

Since starting my job at About Faces Entertainment a little over a week ago, Iโ€™ve truly felt a sense of community and friendship within the walls of the office building. While I was onboarding and going through training, all of the senior staff and Mike, the owner, were so patient with me if I had any questions or got confused about some of the procedures and tasks. From my first day, my co-workers have made sure to check in on me and make sure that I am doing things correctly without coming across as overbearing and are happy to correct my mistakes with constructive criticism and opportunities to learn and grow.
